PROFIBUS Manual

Often the person who installs a system is not the same as the person who carries out its commissioning. For this reason, we have included it here as a separate chapter.

Step 3.1 Construct

Distances, planned bit rates and the number of stations determine whether a PROFIBUS is constructed with electrical, optical or intrinsically safe transmission systems. These days repeaters (amplifiers) and FOC converters allow almost any distance to be bridged.

Step 3.2 Wire up

The choice of transmission route and a proper earth will have an important influence on the noise immunity of a PROFIBUS installation.

Step 3.3 Connect

Connecting plugs provide the link between cable and field device. They are often the underlying cause of faulty installations.

Step 3.4 Check

To check electrical installation there are various possible measurements that are listed in another chapter.
