With PROFIBUS, uniform data transmission is the responsibility of the fieldbus data link (FDL) layer functions. These functions are identical for all PROFIBUS profiles.
We can differentiate between the following functions:
-Medium Access and Control (MAC)
-Fieldbus Link Control (FLC)
Each of these function groups makes specific services available and is implemented with specific functions.
We can distinguish between services for data transmission and management services.
