A maximum of 32 participants may be connected on any one segment. These participants include not only the stations (e.g. DP masters, DP slaves) but also the individual repeaters or FOC converters. A maximum of 126 stations can be addressed on a PROFIBUS. The maximum PROFIBUS network can only be built with the help of repeaters:

•A maximum of 31 stations and one repeater can be connected in any first or last segment.

•In any middle segment, a maximum of 30 stations and 2 repeaters can be connected.

•For a maximum network therefore, at least 4 simple repeaters or one multiple or modular repeater will be required.
